Current Events

The Adventure Has Ended

After more than four months that I spent on Barkers Island my adventure has finally come to an end. This Ice Project finished at: Height: 50’6” Width: 49’ Weight: 5 million pounds. I had a wonderful time. I made several new friends and I enjoyed meeting all who come to see my work. It was a pleasure working with the City of Superior and those who were involved with the project especially Mary Morgan, Director of Parks, Recreation & Forestry. Mary had poured her heart into this project as much as myself and had more confidence in me than I had in myself.

The weather was not as helpful as I would have liked. But even though the structure did come crashing down in February we still managed to have a successful season media wise. We even got attention in the UK.

I am now going to be spending time this summer developing technology based on what I have learned during this project. With what I have learned I am confident that next year will be my greatest endeavor yet.

Special Thanks

I want to thank all who take time to appreciate these projects and the effort that goes into them.  It is truly my pleasure meeting and talking to people that have a genuine appreciation for our natural enviroment.

The Adventure Has Begun

I am elated, finally after months of work on my part and two great people that I worked closely with:
Mary Morgan, Director of Parks, Recreation & Forestry.
Dean Bruss, AVP Commercial Banking National Bank of Commerce.
I have approval to build an ice sculpture on Barkers Island, Superior Wisconsin.
This idea of a winter attraction was originally launched through Dean Bruss's participation in the Douglas County Leadership Group.
Mary Morgan was instrumental in orchestrating all of what was needed to get this project successfully launched and approved by the City of Superior.

The Superior City Council approved the project by a vote 8 to 2. The city of Superior and the Tourist Development fund (TDF) will be financing this project. My contract will be for three years assuming I have a successful season.  I am truly grateful to the City of Superior and the TDF for giving me this opportunity.

Now it it’s up to me to show the great people of Superior that their efforts were not in vain.  Since last March I have been working on improving and introducing new technology to make these projects even greater.  In keeping with my main goals to create these projects bigger and better at every attempt, I intend to build an single ice wall at least 75 feet tall and 90 feet wide.  Conditions in Superior are more favorable to projects of this nature so it may even be greater.

I am hoping with this project I will be able to gain international attention to the City of Superior and of course IcemanRoger.
